38 million years in the making

Wine is liquid geography

The Waitaki Valley slices through the heart of New Zealand's south island connecting the majestic mountains of the Southern Alps to the west coastal town of Oamaru.

The valley is famous for the Alps 2 Ocean cycle trail which attracts thousands of visitors and was recently named one of the top 50 destinations in the world.

Now the valley is fast becoming known for its impressive range of award-winning wines. Throughout the valley seams of limestone provide the perfect foundation for producing Burgundy-style wines.

Since the first vines were planted in 2002, our small, but perfectly formed team have been dedicated to producing the best possible wines. Our winemaking is carried out with as little intervention as possible by Jeff Sinnott, using the traditional techniques of Burgundy and Alsace, with subtle use of oak.

Being a boutique winery it's all hands to the pump at harvest time, including many friends and family of Jim & Annie.

The love and attention that we put into each and every bottle has seen Ostler Wine recognised on the international wine stage.

Sixth IWC gold for Caroline's

Ostler Wines, based in the North Otago township of Kurow, has been awarded a gold medal for the Ostler Caroline’s Pinot Noir 2018 in the prestigious International Wine Challenge (IWC).

This is the sixth consecutive Caroline’s vintage to have been awarded a gold medal since the 2010 vintage in this annual wine competition dubbed ‘The Oscars of the Wine World’

Our Pinot Gris Collection

At Ostler we are one of a handful of New Zealand wineries to produce three different styles of Pinot Gris.  Now you have the opportunity to taste all three.

Starting with the premier Audrey's which is grown on limestone, a rich texture but in a dry style. Waitaki Valley, hand picked, tank fermented and made in an easy drinking grigio style. Finally, Lakeside, grown from a precious little 457 clone, concentrated, ripe, luscious style that makes friends wherever it goes.
