Ostler Audrey's Pinot Gris 2016
The 2016 Audrey’s is an outstanding vintage of our premium pinot gris, earning 5-star reviews from Bob Campbell, Michael Cooper and Sam Kim (Wine Orbit).
It’s an intense and mouth-filling pinot gris, rich with spicy stonefruit and hints of tropical fruits balanced a thread of chalky minerality characteristic of white wines grown on limestone. It displays complexity and harmony with a gentle sweetness (10 g/L residual sugar).
The Audrey’s is grown on our Clos Ostler vineyard, partially barrel fermented and lees aged to give rich texture but in a dry style.
The 2016 Audrey’s is drinking beautifully now until 2025.
“An impressive wine, with a hint of sweetness balanced by slightly peppery tannins which promote a drying finish” – Bob Campbell
“The powerful 2016 vintage is a delicious wine, well worth cellaring. (* * * * * )” – Michael Cooper
Food matches: Try with pork belly or a solid white fish like hapuka or any poultry dish such as guinea fowl or quail – magnificent!
Jeff’s tasting notes: The classic Audrey’s, a chardonnay drinker’s Pinot Gris in a Burgundian style. The regional signature is there - white nectarine, flint, baking spice - underlaid by more complex aromatics from wild yeast fermentation in old demi-muid barrels. With 10 g/L residual sugar, this is a full bodied, just off-dry white wine balanced by an indefinable chalkiness, the hallmark of great white wines grown on limestone.
