Ostler Audrey's Pinot Gris 2019
It’s an intense and mouth-filling pinot gris, rich with spicy stonefruit and hints of tropical fruits balanced a thread of chalky minerality characteristic of white wines grown on limestone. It displays complexity and harmony. (2.1 g/L residual sugar).
The Audrey’s is grown on our Clos Ostler vineyard, partially barrel fermented and lees aged to give rich texture but in a dry style.
The 2019 Audrey’s is drinking beautifully now until 2025.
Food matches: Try with pork belly or a solid white fish like hapuka or any poultry dish such as guinea fowl or quail – magnificent!
Jeff’s tasting notes: The classic Audrey’s, a chardonnay drinker’s Pinot Gris in a Burgundian style. The regional signature is there - white nectarine, flint, baking spice - underlaid by more complex aromatics from wild yeast fermentation in old demi-muid barrels. With 10 g/L residual sugar, this is a full bodied, just off-dry white wine balanced by an indefinable chalkiness, the hallmark of great white wines grown on limestone.
