The 2020 Audrey’s is an exquisite dryish version of our flagship Pinot Gris which has something of a cult following!
Full bodied and interesting, the ’20 matches earlier vintages in terms of aroma – white stonefruits, toasted brioche notes from barrel fermentation and the classic Audrey’s trait of a subtle minerality weaving its way through.
In the mouth, the natural dry extract gives weight without needing residual sugar to body the palate. The acidity is finely balanced to give life and length to the wine. A fine veil of phenolics adds texture and dimension in this wine with 3.8 g/L of residual sugar.
The trick with Pinot Gris is to balance the acidity with the fruit weight of the wine rather than residual sugar per se. The best dry Gris styles we like follow this approach so think you could think of the 2020 Ostler Audrey’s Pinot Gris as Northern Italy crossed with white Burgundy (although it’s most definitely not a Pinot Grigio style).
If you can resist drinking it now, we highly recommend cellaring for a couple of years to allow the wine to relax and fully integrate. This Audrey’s vintage will reward cellaring for up to a decade.

White meats such as poached veal with cavolo nero, garlic and olives. The protein will stand up to the phenolics in the wine while the slippery, savoury cavolo will enhance the fruit and mineral notes beautifully.

The 2019-20 growing season threw out its challenges, like the winter drought preceding, the windy spring January floods then cool month, warm dry autumn.leading to average-sized berries and intense flavours. The other was keeping the vines under control so there was plenty of hard work by our crew tucking, plucking and trimming vines until the autumn harvest day when the fruit was lovingly picked and transported to the winery.
