Ostler Lakeside Riesling 2016
There’s no doubt 2016 was a special vintage with low yields, ripe fruit and resulting concentrated flavour in a dry style.
At bottling the wine showed concentrated riesling aromatics of white flowers, yellow and green citrus, lemons and limes with a very attractive note of ripe gala apple and a hint of ripe peach. Behind these primary fruit aromas a subtle flinty note we believe is derived from our sandstone soils, i.e. minerality.
This wine has already benefitted from 4 years of cellaring. It's drinking well now and have years of further cellaring potential for those who like aged rieslings.
In the mouth the wine is equally profound. The concentrated ripe riesling flavours are held in check by balanced acidity hold the wine in a dry tension that simply begs for salty food.
Food matches: Pair the 2016 Lakeside Riesling with grilled scampi or prawns on the barbie. It drinks well in its youth but will reward cellaring to reveal its true identity…if you have the time.
